Portraits
Portraits made in the space between stillness and movement.
A conventional portrait asks a person to hold still. I ask them to move.
I photograph people as they turn, laugh, sway and gesture, letting the camera record the passage of time rather than a single fixed instant.
Faces soften and dissolve, colours trail through the frame, and what remains is less a likeness than a trace of someone’s presence: the shape of a movement, the energy of a moment that has already passed.
This work grows from the same questions that shape my photographs of weathered walls and urban surfaces. There, I look for the marks people leave on the places they move through. Here, the person becomes the surface, and the marks are made by their own motion.
Each portrait session is unhurried and collaborative.
There is no right way to stand and no need to perform for the camera; the images come from playfulness, movement and the unexpected.
The results are intentionally abstract: portraits that hold a feeling about a person rather than a precise record of how they look.
Commission a Portrait
Portrait sessions are available for individuals, artists and creatives seeking an image that sits outside the conventional portrait.
